If you are going to a party and expect to bring loads of girls back with you for second round party with your friends, will you bring a limousine or bring a normal car? knowing well that limousine can bring more girls together with you.
If you want to host an e commerce website, would you limit your website to have limited visitor coming in to buy your stuff or you would actually to prepare your website to be as robust and fast as possible or you will just rent a normal server from public hosting which can’t auto scale?
Because IT, or Cloud, or IT infra, or web server, e commerce platform, PC and printer problems, these term seems so identical to business owner, and generally business owner would appoint someone that they believed in, and do everything to support their business, sometimes up to the level of fixing their PC and laptop, and expect these people has all the skillset of providing website to e commerce website all the way down to fixing the wifi and printer can’t print problem. BIG MISTAKE!
Today let’s just focus on e commerce website. Many business owner will just focus on getting someone to develop their e commerce website/portal, and the guy can do wonders, on the e commerce platform, but the web User Interface….. (need another team) but business owner don’t really know/care and expect the same guy to do some web designing. So, after designing the e commerce website it needs to be hosted some where. Where it will be hosted? It will be hosted on whichever source the e commerce guy can find, generally the cheapest he can find, private hosting, because the business owner wanted a PLC solution. Peng, Leng, Cheng, solution.
Because the e commerce website guy is an e-commerce guy, so automatically he put a lot of focus on e commerce website and neglected a lot of other topic, especially on the infra that is hosting the e commerce website. AS LONG AS IT WORKS, is the common motto of these operator. Guess what, if the website no business no traffic, business owner is sad, but, if the website business is good and guess what, the business owner is sad too! Why? Because the cheap infrastructure may not able to support the traffic that comes into the website and can’t even place the order!
Last two week an acquaintance went into such situation, brought a 2 core server with 4GB RAM going to do product launching, it was a successful launch for the first 3-5 minutes, everyone was anticipating their product and even my staff like it, but 5 min after the launch the server could not coup the traffic and hung, so, website was down, people who came into the website thought they bought the product but the payment gateway wasn’t fast enough to process the order so the order was “rejected” and left with 5,000 (and more because server hang and can’t see more incoming customer) disappointed and some up to angry customer. Many negative comment was left in the review of the official page.
Tarnished the brand image?

Will the customer come back again?
Lost of sales while the IT are unable to support the business requirement?
IT is complex, speak to the right one. How to know if he’s the right one? If someone tell you they can do everything of IT, please start to get worry. The complex IT can break into OSI 7 layers, OSI = Open Systems Interconnection, it’s a complex subject for me too but my lecturer told me to remember as such, please refer the photo, and how lecturer told me to remember, how ironic, and I am a sales person today, and forever will be.
